Public library trustees play a vital role in the life of the library as they act as the governing body of the library. Trustees are charged with the responsibilities of monitoring and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the library, planning for the future of the library, setting library policies, and advocating for the library.

Following a nomination process, trustees are appointed to the local library board for four year terms by the County Judge Executive. Regular library board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 8am at the Laurel County Public Library.

Interested in serving on the Library Board of Trustees?

Currently there are no vacancies on the Library Board of Trustees. However, we always accept applications from those who wish to be considered for any future openings.

The Laurel County Public Library is always seeking to identify dedicated individuals who have a passion for libraries and the ability to effectively advocate for them.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for establishing policy, approving the budget, and ensuring that adequate funds are available to finance the budget. The Board oversees the library’s finances, the library director, and is responsible for understanding the library’s mission, programs, and services delivered to the community. This is a volunteer position.

Trustees must be able to attend and actively participate in all regular library board meetings (the third Tuesday of each month) as well as any special called meetings.

Interested persons should contact Leah Rudder by email or phone (606)864-5759 for a printed application or fill out the form below.
