The Friends of the Laurel County Public Library were recognized as an Outstanding Friends Chapter by the Friends of Kentucky Libraries Association this past Saturday.
Last year our friends group grew to 219 members strong and donated 357 hours of their time making such programs like our LEGO club, Books for Babies, events like the Frisch Marionettes, Lexington Children’s Theater, and more available to our patrons!
In 2014, our group gathered 867 signatures (one of the highest in the state) in support of the Declaration for the Right to Libraries. They can be seen here with State Senator Albert Robinson, adding his name to the list.
They continue to advocate for the library with an international exchange project with libraries in Kazakhstan and the Ukraine, sharing with them techniques and strategies used by our social media team, ongoing programs and activities, and the role that a Friends group can play in supporting their libraries.
Congratulations friends members…we’re very proud of you all!
